North Berwick Wildlife Club has been presented with awards from The Wildlife Trusts, the umbrella body for Wildlife Trusts in the UK.
In the annual Wildlife Watch awards, celebrating wildlife for young people, North Berwick Wildlife Club has been named the Best New Group and came second in the Best UK Group.
The competition judges groups on the quality of activities they provide, and their relevance to the ethos of the Wildlife Trusts. The judges were impressed by the programmes provided by the Wildlife Club in North Berwick.
North Berwick Wildlife Watch Club is run by education staff and volunteers at the Scottish Seabird Centre, with support from the Scottish Wildlife Trust. It has proved so popular it has had to split into two separate age groups, with a third starting in the summer term. The kids have been drawn in by activities from digital photography and exploring rockpools to nature inspired crafts and seal watching sessions. The kids produced a yearbook detailing their activities which wowed the judges.
Jenny McAllister, one of the North Berwick group leaders said:
“To be recognised on a national platform is a fantastic achievement for everyone who has made the Scottish Seabird Centre’s Wildlife Club such a success. We always try to keep the activities fresh and exciting and we have had such great feedback from the kids and their parents. We can’t wait to build on this success over the next year!”
The Scottish Wildlife Trust supports 25 Wildlife Watch groups in Scotland, part of a network of over 400 across the UK.
