A local wildlife group has been judged one of the best in the UK for the second year running.
Moray Wildlife Watch group, run by volunteers and supported by the Scottish Wildlife Trust were highly commended in the Wildlife Watch Group of the Year competition, wowing judges with their wide range of fun and exciting activities.
Wildlife Watch is the Junior branch of The Wildlife Trusts and there are 25 Watch groups in Scotland, part of a network of over 400 across the UK.
In the past year, the Moray group have linked up with a local farm, had training sessions on drama and art and got clued up on the job of a rescue dog.
On their farm visits they have been working on achieving a John Muir Award, incorporating pond dipping, meeting the farm animals and doing animal surveys.
They have also been visited by the SSPCA, and a Wildlife Crime liaison Officer- so they have a good understanding of wildlife and domestic animals.
Lynne Laing, leader of Moray Wildlife Watch group said “It is great to be recognised at a national level as being one of the top five Wildlife Watch groups in the UK. The kids respond so well to the variety of activities we provide and it’s great to be getting out and about in our local area.”
