South Scotland MSP Claudia Beamish has visited the Falls of Clyde to find out more about wildlife and conservation in the region.
She was presented with a regional guide to wildlife by Scottish Wildlife Trust staff at the reserve, who showed her around the world famous Falls.
The Scottish Wildlife Trust manage four nature reserves in and around New Lanark and more than 30 reserves in the South Scotland region.
The Falls of Clyde reserve is particularly busy at the moment as families flock to New Lanark to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site and the Scottish Wildlife Trust reserve during the summer holidays. It’s a great time to see otters along the river and peregrines, who have been breeding on the reserves for the last ten years, flying over the gorge.
Claudia Beamish MSP said:
“I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Falls of Clyde. It was terrific to see the continuing work on native species which I have noticed over years of visits. There were many visitors, both local and from several counties who we saw along the way.
“I was delighted to receive the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s wildlife guide which shows the nature hotspots in Southern Scotland. There are many stunning places to visit in this part of Scotland and I would encourage everyone to get out and explore the wildlife on your doorstep.”
