Great skua chick hatches on the Isle of Eigg

The Scottish Wildlife Trust is delighted to announce that a great skua chick has hatched on the Isle of Eigg for the very first time.

The species bred for the first time on Eigg last year but failed at the egg stage – probably due to the terrible May weather.

Scottish Wildlife Trust Ranger on Eigg, John Chester, said: “The species has been colonising down the west coast for some years. They began summering around the Small Isles around ten years ago and have bred on Rum and Canna for around the past five.”
