The Scottish Wildlife Trust is inviting locals and budding artists to be inspired by Ayr Gorge Woodlands wildlife reserve. They are hosting a “Gorgeous Art Day” on Saturday 25 September in partnership with local artist/naturalist Thomas Wilson BA (Hons) of Ayrshire’s West and Wild.
Visitors will explore the nature of this fabulous gorge, including grand monumental rivers, crags and forest scenes as well as the more intimate life of plants, mushrooms and even insects.
Through observing and sketching, artists of all abilities can experience the pleasure and challenges of working outdoors, trying out new techniques to produce work which relates to the location and reflects the artists’ responses to it.
Although artists can bring their own materials, the basics will be provided for the day which will start at 10 am and go on until around 3 pm. Booking is essential for what is expected to be a very popular event.
Contact Gill Smart of the Scottish Wildlife Trust at 01294 279376 or
gsmart@swt.org.uk for further information and to reserve a place.
Members of the public might also be interested in the annual Scottish Wildlife Trust Fungal Foray in the same location the following day (Sunday 26 September), where local expert Graeme Walker will identify and explain the many colourful mushrooms and toadstools that spring up in the woods at this time of year.
