Blue YZ begins migration

Leading conservation charity, the Scottish Wildlife Trust, is happy to announce that the chick known as Blue YZ has left the nest at the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Visitor Centre at Loch of the Lowes, near Dunkeld, to start its journey to Africa for the winter.

Blue YZ is the 50th chick to fledge from the bird affectionately known by many as ‘Lady’ – which the Trust believes, may be the most prolific breeding osprey in the UK.

Recently, Blue YZ was fitted with a satellite tracking system that allows the Scottish Wildlife Trust to monitor its migration.

After analysis of the most recent batch of data, it was discovered that Blue YZ left the nest on Thursday morning, reaching the Isle of Man – where it ultimately stopped for the night.

Chief executive of the Scottish Wildlife Trust, Simon Milne, said: “The Scottish Wildlife Trust is glad to announce the departure of the bird known as BlueYZ on its maiden migratory voyage.

“After a successful osprey satellite tagging appeal, the Scottish Wildlife Trust raised enough funds to show to members of the public the vast journey that these majestic birds undertake.

“The Scottish Wildlife Trust wishes Blue YZ, and all other migrating ospreys, a safe journey.”
