Cumbernauld: A model for urban wildlife conservation
With a blend of ancient woodlands, meadows, and wetlands, Cumbernauld provides the perfect conditions for an array of wildlife.
Badgers, pine marten, common blue butterflies and even Daubenton’s bats and tawny owls have been spotted here.
But the town’s biodiversity is under threat. Climate change and encroaching urban development are impacting green spaces.
For over 30 years, we’ve been safeguarding Cumbernauld’s habitats; managing wildlife reserves and launching conservation and community initiatives.
Now, Nurturing Natural Connections is taking this work further. Alongside our partners, we are restoring habitats, training future conservation leaders and giving nature a voice in the face of rapid change.
