One month ago I started my new life in Inverness, thanks to my European Solidarity Corps long-term position with the Scottish Wildlife Trust, after my four weeks here, I can say that I am very glad to volunteer within this organisation and live in Inverness.

In only one month I have learnt and experienced more than I expected to. I have met very knowledgeable people ready to share all their understanding. I have been lucky enough to work in several reserves along the Highlands doing different tasks. These tasks included putting in path signals and a people counter, removing litter and tree plantation together with the local group of volunteers and controlling invasive plant species. I think that one part of the job which I enjoy the most is that we are expected to learn and observe the surrounding wildlife while we are carrying out the tasks.

In addition to the outdoor work, I am starting my own survey which will be focused on the study of two endangered butterfly species and the vegetation recording in Spey Bay. I will also have the chance to organise my own guided walk in the reserve.

As a recently graduated Biologist who would love one day to work as a conservationist, I can’t think of a better opportunity to get experience and develop the necessary skills. I am very grateful.
