A bigger team for bigger results
We’ve been very busy here at the Falls of Clyde of late and I am now happy to say we have our full complement of seasonal staff and volunteer placements. Lori arrived on Monday and has just been on an internship in Brazil for six months. As I was showing her around the reserve I commented that I thought I had a stone in my shoe, she then regaled me with a similar tale of when she was walking through the rainforest in her wellingtons and similarly thought she had a stone or something in her shoe. It did in fact turn out to be a huge tarantula!
So we now have Lori, Jess and Susanne here on volunteer placements until June/July and Sarah who is our Seasonal Ranger here until September. If you would like to find out more about them check out the Ranger Profiles page on our Falls of Clyde blog. If you see them out on the reserve, I hope you will give them a warm welcome! In recent weeks it seems like we have been doing a lot of demolishing of things – removing fences, trees, old bird boxes etc. However this week we have been doing lots of rebuilding – painting fences, a new fence in the tree nursery and tree planting behind the peregrine watch.
In the coming months we will be doing lots of path maintenance works, a lot of our paths are in relatively poor condition after the mini forwarder was in extracting our trees. You will begin to see these being brought back into good condition along with new safety fencing along the gorge. In wildlife news – lots more migratory birds are returning to the reserve and the lovely moschatel has begun to flower along the boardwalk.
