The Scottish Wildlife Trust is sad to learn of the death of our former Chair Dr Hugh Ingram, who passed away earlier this month.
Hugh was a noted ecologist who joined the Trust in the late 1960’s. He was a devoted champion for nature for many decades.
In addition to chairing the Trust between 1996-1999 he took a keen interest in the management of our wildlife reserves in Angus including Balgavies Loch.
In 2001 Hugh was awarded the Christopher Cadbury Medal for outstanding services to nature by the Royal Society for Nature Conservation. This award was given for developing the ground water mound hypothesis, which explains the shapes and stability of mires and continues to inform peatland ecology and restoration.
