The Scottish Wildlife Trust is proud to announce that one of the most famous birds in the world has returned to the Loch of the Lowes! A female osprey, thought to be around 27 years old, has been returning to the reserve near Dunkeld for the past 23 years. The osprey is affectionately known as ‘Lady’ to her many fans in Scotland and those who watch on our webcam around the world.

The female osprey returned on Saturday March 30th and was confirmed as the famous female using close ups of plumage and eye markings on Easter Day. Over the last couple of days she has settled into the nest, along with the male who has been at Loch of the Lowes for a week already. This is the same male who was new last year; he and ‘Lady’ successfully bred then, so we hope the same will happen this year.
If the osprey pair do have chicks and one of them successfully fledges, this will be the 50th chick that this remarkable bird has raised at Loch of the Lowes. This would be a quite magnificent record for an individual bird and a significant contribution to the recovery of the osprey as a breeding species in Scotland.
