This weekend the Scottish Wildlife Trust is launching exciting new trails for the whole family at its four-star Visitor Centres plus an enchanting online game, inspired by Disney•Pixar’s new animated film set in Scotland, Brave, which comes out this Friday (3rd August).
The Great Scottish Wildlife Adventure is open to explore at the Trust’s three Visitor Centres from Saturday 4th August until the end of the month: the Falls of Clyde in New Lanark, Montrose Basin in Angus and Loch of the Lowes in Dunkeld, Perthshire.

Brave adventurers will be sent out to explore the wildlife reserves, following clues, challenges and Pictish runes to find the Lost Species of Scotland. If they are successful, a magical Pictish stone and a certificate will be theirs! Adventurers can collect even more precious stones by completing the different Adventures at all three Visitor Centres.
For parents still searching for healthy, affordable and captivating ideas to entertain the kids as we approach the end of the school holidays, this day out is the ideal solution.
After Adventurers have completed the trail in the real world, they can go online to find the Lost Species in our exclusive game only available on the Scottish Wildlife Trust website.
Although wild bears no longer roam Scotland’s great outdoors as they do in Brave, it is still possible to encounter an incredibly diverse variety of wildlife, from the dolphins and salmon to birds of prey and red deer.
Scottish Wildlife Trust Chief Executive Simon Milne said:
“Several of the species featured in the mythical world of Brave, such as the brown bear, are sadly no longer found in Scotland. Others such as the lynx and the woolly mammoth are also missing from our environment. However, the beaver is now being reintroduced as part of a five year Trial, 400 years after it became extinct.
“Through The Great Scottish Wildlife Adventure and our online game, children and their families can enjoy this affordable activity, discovering Scotland’s inspiring wildlife for themselves.
“In the last full week of the school holidays, we want as many of Scotland’s youngsters to explore the great outdoors as possible. What better way to do it than on a Great Scottish Wildlife Adventure?”
