1,500 and counting for Falls of Clyde badger watch

1,500 people have been on an inspiring badger watch at the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Falls of Clyde reserve. The 1,500th badger watcher, Rory Valantine from Carluke, was awarded a badger badge and a cuddly badger toy which he promptly named Fantastic Mr Badger.

The Trust's badger watches involve an inspiring evening walk through the woods of the Falls of Clyde to visit one of our many badger setts. Viewing badgers in their natural habitat from our purpose-built platform has delighted visitors to the Falls of Clyde for many years.

Falls of Clyde Ranger Laura Whitfield said:

Badger watcher Rory Valantine and his dad

“This badger watch evening was a great success: we spotted two badgers, one at the sett and one along the woodland path on the way back foraging in the fields. Rory was very excited to have seen the badgers and had been reading up about them before he arrived. He was wearing a huge grin on his face for most of the evening and seemed in awe of these fascinating creatures.

“Your best chance of seeing a badger is during the long summer evenings; badgers are around all year but the lighter evenings allow for the best badger viewing experience.

“Badgers are one of Britain’s best loved creatures and it’s great to think that over 1,500 people have had a chance to see them here at the Falls of Clyde!”

The next two family badger watches, designed for a younger audience, are on Saturday 4 and Saturday 11 August. Please call the Falls of Clyde Visitor Centre in advance to book your place.

There are also two evening badger watches on Friday 17 and Thursday 23 August. Please call the Falls of Clyde Visitor Centre in advance to book your place. Alternatively, click here for a full programme of events.
