Delight as Hunterston power station scrapped

Ayrshire Power have announced they have abandoned plans for a coal fired power station at Hunterston in North Ayrshire. The Scottish Wildlife Trust are delighted with this news and relieved that the right decision has been made for people and wildlife.

Scottish Wildlife Trust Chief Executive Simon Milne said:

“This is the right decision. The right decision for wildlife and the right decision for our natural environment. This comes after a sustained campaign by the conservation movement in Scotland. The Scottish Wildlife Trust mobilised our members to campaign against the development.

“A large part of an important habitat in the Firth of Clyde has been saved. This area has nationally important eelgrass beds and the best intertidal mudflats for feeding wildfowl and waders in the Clyde, as well as supporting other wildlife including otters, the nationally scarce plant seaside centaury and a rare type of cuckoo bee.”
