The Scottish Wildlife Trust says BP’s reckless and arrogant drilling scheme off Shetland must be stopped.

 

BP plan to drill at the North Uist well, starting next year.  Contingency plans show a worst case scenario for a spill there would be more than double the amount spilled after the Deepwater Horizon disaster last year.

 

Commenting, Scottish Wildlife Trust Head of Policy Tony King said:

 

“The Scottish Wildlife Trust is horrified that BP – in the full knowledge that their actions could lead to the world’s biggest ever oil spill causing untold damage to wildlife here and in Norway  – is planning to go ahead and drill in the deep waters of the north Atlantic.  

 

“UK energy secretary Chris Huhne has to stamp on this reckless and arrogant scheme now and make clear that there will be no Deepwater Horizon in Scottish waters.”
