Our local branch members are spread across a large area of the northeast and we are fortunate to have a diverse range of local nature reserves located in our region.

GROUP MEETINGS

Where and when?

Where we meet

We organise walks and talks throughout the year. Some talks are held online but for in person events we vary the venue to give members from across our vast patch (Laurencekirk to Banff!) the opportunity to come along. We have four Trust nature reserves in our area, including Gight Wood and Longhaven, and a newly set up tree nursery growing on trees for Gight.

Ranging for Nature blog

Tree nursery diary – Tree log #15

Wee update on our Gight tree seedlings. Happily, all is going OK. We have good numbers of small birch and alder. And a mighty five oak seedlings that germinated along with two lonely hazel. A modest start really but great to have these wee trail blazers. Think how long those oaks could live!

Background

In 2023 our group received funding from the JTPB fund for our ‘Ranging for Nature’ project. Our three core areas are:

  • Establish a tree nursery to re-stock Gight, ensuring a healthy woodland for the future
  • Provide community groups with the skills and equipment needed to realise or enhance their green project
  • Work with local groups and schools to inspire and enthuse people, young and old, about our amazing wildlife
