Inspiring group-led development
We are delighted to announce that the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire Group have been awarded £15,000 for their ‘Ranging for Nature’ project thanks to a strong show of local support during last month’s voting.
Distributed by Aberdeenshire Voluntary Action and North East Scotland Climate Action Network (NESCAN) Hub on behalf of The Scottish Government, this fund will allow the group to kickstart their project in Aberdeenshire.
Roger Owen, the Chair of the group, had this to say:
“We are delighted that we’ve been successful in securing this funding for our project: Ranging for Nature – building a team of community-led conservation volunteers. The Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire Group is a long-established group, led entirely by volunteers. With support from the Green Participatory Budget Fund, we will work with Aberdeenshire communities in rebuilding nature on their doorstep. By purchasing materials, tools and equipment, we will enable a diverse range of people to get involved in projects that support nature and tackle the negative effects of climate change.
“The Ranging for Nature project will bring together young and old people, learning and working together, on projects such as a new local tree nursery, restoring a peat bog and planting wildflowers to support native pollinators. Through our ‘ranging’ conservation volunteer activities, on wildlife reserves and beyond in wider Aberdeenshire, people will gain experience in wildlife recording, develop practical conservation skills and enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits of being in nature.”
