It won’t be long until the ospreys start to fledge

The two chicks are quickly approaching adult size

We’ve recently passed the longest day of the year, during which the ospreys were able to rely on a remarkable 20 hours of daylight here at Lowes.

Long summer days and an abundance of lochs which are full of fish are among the reasons that Perthshire has become such a stronghold for ospreys.

Life on the nest is going well and despite the sad recent loss of the youngest chick, the two oldest chicks are thriving.

Yesterday LM12 set a new record for the number of fish brought to the nest. He caught an amazing ten fish in a single day, while also fending off five intruders.

It won’t be too much longer before the chicks take their first tentative flights from the nest. We’ve already seen them stretch and flap their developing wings. Stay tuned to our live osprey webcam to follow the progress of these amazing birds.

Our Osprey Protection Programme at Loch of the Lowes is supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
