Loch of the Lowes ospreys – calm before the storm!

On yet another windy afternoon, we were enjoying watching LM12 and NC0 spending time on the nest together. Over the last few days, our ospreys have spent a bit of time away from the nest, mating and sheltering from the strong winds. That made seeing them somewhat relaxed on the nest together a lovely treat!

See the below video showing LM12 bringing in some more nesting material this afternoon (30th March 2021).

Just a short while later, another osprey comes onto the nest. This is not an uncommon occurrence as there are many osprey on the look out for a mate and nesting site, especially at this time of year. Although LM12 and NC0 have a relatively new partnership, LM12 is very experienced at protecting his nest and territory. Over the last 9 years, LM12 has shown us some amazing and dramatic displays whilst defending his territory against other osprey.

We believe that this may be the same osprey who visited us last year. Unfortunately, we can not say for certain as they are not ringed, and only make short visits to our reserve.

We look forward to seeing what happens next!
