It might be sunny and relaxed at Loch of the Lowes today, but all was not calm on the nest.

An intruder osprey spent 5 minutes circling and dive bombing the nest, most likely a solitary male attempting to take over the nest as their own.

LM12 sat tight guarding LF15, with both birds showing classic defensive behaviour of mantling and guard calling, which escalated to full alarm calls.

Rather than engaging in an aerial battle that would risk injury, LM12 remained with his mate before eventually following the intruder at a safe distance, escorting them ‘off the premises’.

Let’s hope the rest of the morning is a little less exciting!
