First egg of the year!

We’re delighted to have our first egg of the season. LF15 gave us a glimpse of the egg at around 3:45 this morning. A couple of hours later LM12 came back to the nest and tried to push his mate out of the way but LF15 wasn’t having any of it!

LM 12 has brought a fish back to the nest this morning and took over incubation duties for a short time while LF15 ate some food.

Keep your eyes on our webcam for a glimpse of the egg!

All being well we expect to see another egg in around three days’ time. Osprey eggs take an average of 37 days to hatch, so we could have chicks by mid-late May.

Now that an egg has been laid our osprey watch begins. Thanks to support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery our Ranger, Species Protection Officers and volunteers are keeping a close eye on the nest around the clock, and are staying alert to any potential disturbance to the ospreys.
