PH2 has fledged!
The eldest osprey chick (PH2) fledged the nest this afternoon at 2.04pm. First flights normally last just a few minutes – PH2 flew a few circled around the nest and then found a convenient branch in a Scots Pine to rest. She has been perched there ever since – perhaps a little nervous to make the return journey! The nest isn’t far so we expect that when LM12 returns with some food she will be tempted back.

PH1 seemed quite alarmed when PH2 took off, lying down quickly in the nest as young ospreys do when they sense danger. He has spent a lonely afternoon on the nest, waiting for a fellow osprey to return. PH1 is a full five days younger – but lighter males often fledge earlier than heavier females – so he might be fledging in the next few days. Keep an eye on our blogs and webcam for news!
