As if LM12 hasn’t got enough work to do providing fish for his partner and another 2 hungry little beaks, in the last day or so he has also had plenty of intruders to deal with! As he returned to the nest yesterday following a successful fishing attempt, he was forced to see off 4 osprey intruders before he even had the chance to deliver his fish! A fantastic aerial battle was witnessed by our visitors and volunteers in the hides as he defended his patch whilst still holding onto dinner!

Today has been no different with other ospreys, crows and a buzzard testing his defensive skills. Thankfully he was able to see them all off successfully, however late on this evening it was the LF15’s turn to deal with an unwanted visitor.

This brave intruder osprey even landed on the nest briefly, glaring at the precious new family until it was pushed off the nest by our female before it could do any damage. Whilst we saw a blue and white darvic ring, unfortunately we weren’t able to read it before it took off again.

There is still no progress to report on the hatching of our third egg, however the old overlapping shell from its hatched sibling which is still attached to the egg is causing plenty of false alarms!

As soon as we catch our first glimpse of a hatching in progress we will of course keep you updated!
