Angus Council supports Scottish Wildlife Trust in bringing nature to children

A new identification panel at the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Montrose Basin Visitor Centre is set to help local children learn more about the bugs and beasties found around the reserve, thanks to funding received from Angus Council.

Designed to be appealing and easy to use for children, the new panel situated right outside the Visitor Centre building will support the education programme run by the Centre’s resident Teacher Naturalist and will become a key resource for ‘Bugs and Beasties’ events activities which are planned to take place during the summer holidays.

Caroline Hendry, Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Visitor Centre Manager said:

“Next to the panel Bug Hotel at Montrose Basin (c) Scottish Wildlife Trustvisitors can view the insect habitat, or ‘bug mansion’ as we like to call it, which was made by local school children and volunteers from recycled materials. It’s so easy to construct and can be made by people in their own gardens to help provide a safe environment for insects.”

The Montrose Basin Visitor Centre is preparing for a busy summer season which starts with the Centre opening its doors seven days a week from 1 March.  A full programme of events will run throughout the year including guided walks, children’s activities and wader ID courses.
