Over the past year, staff from the Cumbernauld Living Landscape programme have been working with local partners to create a vision for new ‘green routes’ around the town. Their hope is to transform links from the centre of Cumbernauld to the surrounding communities by creating pathways which improve the environment, are accessible, safe and enjoyable. Their vision is now on display in Cumbernauld town centre.

The year-long feasibility study helped to identify any barriers to getting around the town and how the current green network could be improved. They began by accompanying local walking groups along three key routes, using their knowledge and experience to gain an understanding of how the routes are currently used. This was complemented by a detailed survey of the environment along these routes and culminated in a design workshop to propose how these could be improved in the future. Led by Collective Architecture, the feasibility project is being delivered through the generous support of the Central Scotland Green Network, North Lanarkshire Council, Glasgow and Clyde Valley Green Network and the Scottish Wildlife Trust.
