Northern Brown Argus Butterfly Monitoring

Join us for a morning of learning how to identify and survey for this rare and beautiful butterfly.

The northern brown argus butterfly is one of our most threatened species, and populations have halved in the past 50 years. However, this butterfly is thriving at the Scottish Wildlife Trust's Tummel Shingle reserves near Pitlochry.

Join the ranger team and expert staff from 'Butterfly Conservation' for a morning learning more about this elusive butterfly. Find out how to survey for the northern brown argus and get involved in counting their eggs on the common rock-rose plant.

Please bring suitable outdoor clothing and footwear. Teas and coffees will be provided, however you may wish to bring a packed lunch.

Note that parking is limited and we may need to arrange some car sharing to accommodate everyone.

Meeting location and transport arrangements will be made in advance via email from the Perthshire Ranger. Also please be aware that a 15 minute walk along a dirt track is required to access the meadow from the small car parking area.

The event is an adults only session.
