There are two groups in Gatehouse of Fleet, which together welcome children up to the age of twelve. Nurture in Nature is the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s first toddler group, and welcomes children aged 0-6. Fun Outdoors is for children aged 6-12.
Nurture in Nature
Nurture in Nature is aimed at 0 – 6 years, it meets every Thursday throughout the year at 10am and runs till around 1pm. It is based on child-led exploration but we do have loose activities relating to seasonal changes happening in the woods.
“For children under the age of 6 it is felt that the most important thing is for them to be immersed in nature regularly, so that they can discover the wonders that exist within it, for themselves“. -Karen, Wildlife Watch leader.
Fun Outdoors is for 6 – 12 year olds, and meets every Wednesday afternoon during term time from 3pm – 5pm. We change the focus of the sessions every term based on what the children’s interests are. Last term we focused on woodland mammals with a special interest in squirrels and badgers. This term we are focusing on uses of the woodland so are exploring plant ID, foraging, making dens.
What we do
Nurture in Nature runs in Cally Woods, Gatehouse of Fleet and Fun Outdoors runs in various locations around Gatehouse of Fleet. Nurture in Nature is provided free of charge, and Fun Outdoors ask for a donation of £2 per term to cover the cost of healthy snacks.
