Winter wildlife watching at Montrose Basin

Staff and volunteers at the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Montrose Basin Visitor Centre are gearing up to host a weekend of winter wildlife watching on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th November.

The weekend will be hosted by the Scottish Wildlife Trust in conjunction with Opticron. Visitors will have the opportunity to try out first hand a range of optical equipment including binoculars and telescopes. The Opticron representative will be on hand from 10.30 to 4pm each day to help answer all your questions and help you decide which range of binoculars to buy.

The wildlife events kick off with Meet the Ranger on Saturday 12th from 1pm to 3pm for an afternoon of ranger-led birdwatching. Staff and volunteers will show you how to use the telescopes and point out the wildlife of the Basin (normal admission prices apply). The next event on Sunday 13th from 11.30am to 2.30pm is a Winter wader and wildfowl ID course with a guided walk to help identify the plethora of wildfowl and waders found on the Reserve in winter. Cost per person £15.00 including lunch (BOOKING ESSENTIAL).

Caroline Hendry, Regional Visitor Centre Manager, Perthshire and Angus said “This is a weekend packed with winter wildlife watching activities and a great opportunity to improve your birdwatching identification skills. Visitors also have the opportunity to treat themselves to some new binoculars or telescopes as an early Christmas present.”

For further information and to book your place, please telephone 01674 676336. Booking is essential for the Wildfowl ID course.
