People’s Postcode Lottery Charity Gala highlights the importance of players

Leading conservation charity, the Scottish Wildlife Trust, was delighted to attend People’s Postcode Lottery’s Annual Charity Gala on 29 January, which celebrated the fantastic work that has been made possible throughout 2013 thanks to players of the charity lottery.

The event was also a chance to consider the opportunities that lie ahead in 2014.

Overall, players have raised £2.8 million for the Trust, with the organisation receiving £500,000 last year.

This money is used by the Trust to carry out vital work for its various projects and maintaining its 120 reserves around Scotland.

One such example is the Trust’s 24-hour Peregrine Protection Watch that uses the vital money raised by players to ensure the safety of breeding peregrine falcons at the Falls of Clyde in New Lanark.

The Charity Gala took place at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. The night was a celebration of the hard work achieved by charities supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

Chief Executive of the Scottish Wildlife Trust, Simon Milne, said: “The Trust extends an enormous and heartfelt thank you to players of People’s Postcode Lottery for the brilliant support that is helping to protect Scotland’s very precious wildlife.

“Last night’s event was a real celebration of all the incredible work achieved with so many types of charities but we must not forget that it is players of People’s Postcode Lottery who make it happen.

“It was a fantastic evening and I felt very privileged to attend. It was a reminder of how important players of People’s Postcode Lottery are to the Trust and to charities around the world.”

Players of People’s Postcode Lottery have generated over £35.6 million for charities and good causes.

This year the charity lottery was delighted to welcome Chelsea Clinton who addressed the Gala.

In her special remarks, Chelsea warmly thanked players of People’s Postcode Lottery for their generous support and called for greater collaboration between all sectors to focus on the world’s challenges and turn good intentions into measurable results.
