Dawn chorus walk at Montrose
Did you know that the first Sunday in May is International Dawn Chorus Day?
Events will be held across the world and to help mark this global celebration of one of the true miracles of nature, the Scottish Wildlife Trust are running a Dawn Chorus Walk on their reserve at Montrose Basin on Sunday 1st May.
Meeting at Tayock car park at 5.30am, our Ranger team will lead members of the public on a relaxing stroll around part of the reserve to point out and talk about some of the birds which can be heard singing away.
Until 1976 Tayock was used as the town dump, but since then it has been transformed into fantastic scrubby woodland which attracts a wide range of small birds, including song thrushes, willow warblers, wrens and yellowhammers.
The walk will also give visitors a chance to look out over the Basin and see some of the birds on the mud such as curlews, oystercatchers and shelduck.
Attendance is FREE for members of the Scottish Wildlife Trust, and a small fee of £3 per adult and £2 per child applies for non-members.
