Osprey Satellite Tracking Update 17th January

Just a quick update on our young osprey Blue YD in Senegal. He has had a very typical week on his favourite river. Below is a map of his movements this week. It is hard to imagine the scene there for our young bird, as it is dry season with unbroken sunshine, and a balmy 26degrees centigrade today. Whilst he seems to be doing really well in his second winter , holding a territory and finding enough food to get by, we should never forget he still has hazards to contend with. The sad loss last week of another Scottish osprey Caledonia from RSPB Loch Garten, due to a collision in fog with electricity lines, shows how risky a young birds life really is.
