TWO GREAT EVENTS TODAY

It has been a similar day to yesterday, weather wise, on the loch today. Our male osprey spent most of the morning preening on the Skeleton tree. When I first saw him this morning he had clearly been fishing & had a good sized crop. Blue YZ appeared late morning & flew round the loch before disappearing in the direction of Craiglush. It has been quite a noisy afternoon however, with Blue YZ incessantly calling & flying between the nest & the Point tree. The male has not yet brought any fish for her.

A heron has been wading along the edge of the reeds opposite the hides & the swan which was tangled in fishing line was close by. Staff will continue to monitor her condition & although the line is still visible she is able to eat.

The talk by Alan Stewart on “Tackling Wildlife Crime” was a great success & enjoyed by all – what an insight into his amazing career & the problems he faced!

Once again our “Meet a Wee Mammal” event was very popular with 2 voles & 4 mice observed on each day. Our rangers were able to allow visitors to observe these tiny mammals & give an insight into the ecology of each species.
