Any volunteers?

We’re looking for new people to join us down here at the Falls of Clyde. The exciting new position we have available is for a Victorian Tour Guide; they will dress up and provide ‘live’ interpretation to visitors of the reserve and New Lanark. We are looking for someone during the summer holidays on Saturdays from 11am-1pm and we are willing to pay depending on your experience. Full details below.

About the Organisation: The Scottish Wildlife Trust is Scotland’s leading voluntary organisation for nature conservation, concerned with all aspects of protecting, enhancing and promoting awareness of our natural heritage.  The Trust manages 123 wildlife reserves and currently holds a membership following of over 35,000. The Trust is also active in encouraging the growing public interest in conservation and in keeping people informed through exhibitions, Visitor Centres, campaigning and providing ranger services to help people enjoy the countryside.

Opportunity: Victorian Naturalist

Opportunity Description: The Falls of Clyde is one of Scottish Wildlife Trusts flagship reserves. Candidates are invited to apply for the position of Victorian Tour Guide for forthcoming guided walks in 2013. Main duties will be to provide ‘live’ interpretation to visitors on a guided walk led by our ‘Victorian Naturalist’ in costume. This requires someone with a dramatic personality to tell the story of the reserve from an 1870’s character perspective i.e Charles Darwin & John Muir.

This is a new role although previous volunteers have reported that volunteering for Scottish Wildlife Trust as “very rewarding to know I’m doing my bit for Scottish Wildlife, and it is great to talk to all the visitors”.

Full training and content advise will be provided.

Where Opportunity takes place: The Falls of Clyde Visitor Centre and Reserve, in the bottom left hand corner of New Lanark Village.

Trains are half hourly from Glasgow direction.  From Lanark an hourly bus comes down to the village of New Lanark (Stuarts 135).  By car: Visitors from Glasgow should travel South on the M74 until junction 7, and along the A72 following signs for Lanark and New Lanark.  On arrival, volunteers can park next to the Scottish Wildlife Trust Visitor Centre.

Skills required: Volunteers should be enthusiastic, friendly and of smart appearance. Some knowledge of wildlife may be helpful but not essential.

Restrictions: Over 18 yrs.

Additional restrictions: Interviews and references will be required.

Induction: Full training and induction will be provided.

Expenses: Pay Negotiable.

Please get in touch for further details by contacting Lyndsay Mark – lmark@swt.org.uk or 01555 665 262.
