Roe deer in woodland © Robert Leslie

“A definite highlight for me, was seeing roe deer at Upper Nethan gorge. After finishing the tree planting on one of the Tuesday volunteer sessions the group decided to explore the rest of the site, around the river and the woodland on sides of the gorge. We were moving through the brush on the slope when ahead I spotted two roe deer. They are very seldom seen animals and to see them here was a real treat. It was only for a few seconds before they turned and bolted, but the moment was magical.”
