Loch of the Lowes Wildlife Blog 12th February 2011

Good morning folks.

Despite the milder weather we are having here at the moment there is still a considerable amount of ice and snow around by the feeders and on the Loch. Some of our drake Mallards are looking slightly worse for wear- a few have chest feathers missing and three have acquired an ungainly limp. As the numbers of drakes here far outnumber females, competition for mates will be extremely high.  I’m taking bets as to which unlucky males will miss out on the action!

Take care and happy blogging!
