Loch of the Lowes Wildlife Blog 27th January 2011

Morning all,

There’s a definite chill in the air this morning here at Loch of the Lowes – hopefully not a harbinger of things to come!

Parts of the loch which had opened up have frozen up a bit again – however that doesn’t seem to have detered the wildfowl.

There were several hundred Canada geese crammed into the small patch of open water in the centre of loch (as well as several large skeins in the sky), along with countless Mallards. I also heard the calls of Pink-Footed geese although I couldn’t pick them out from a distance, and the small group of  Goldeneye are still occupying the open water nearer the hides.

Stay warm,

Jonathan
