About the Trust

The Scottish Wildlife Trust is a membership-based charity, with well over 30,000 members throughout Scotland. The charity is governed by a board of Trustees elected by members, and day-to-day operations are handled by our Chief Executive, Simon Milne MBE. To find out more about how we work, please click the links below.

The Trust has just over 90 salaried staff, split between our headquarters in Edinburgh, 11 smaller regional offices, three Visitor Centres (in New Lanark, Dunkeld and Montrose) and an Urban Wildlife Centre in Grangemouth. These staff are supported by over 700 volunteers, who help out with a broad range of activities from reserve management, species protection, surveying and recording to running Visitor Centre activities and events. Find out more about volunteering here.

Local focus is provided by a network of local groups - called Members' Centres - which help engage local people in the Scottish Wildlife Trust's activities. Members' Centres are involved in running events, campaigning for local issues, responding to planning applications and much more besides.

Alongside the Members' Centres, the Trust also has Wildlife Watch groups for children aged 5-14 located the length and breadth of the country. These groups aim to inspire and educate children about wildlife, with fun activities and events throughout the year.
