News: Time for Holyrood to rebuild our biodiversity
19th August 2011
The UK Government today announced the England Biodiversity Strategy. The Scottish Wildlife Trust have called on the Scottish Government to follow suit and be ambitious for Scotland’s wildlife.
Commenting, Scottish Wildlife Trust Head of Policy Tony King said:
“Today’s UK Government strategy for England’s wildlife sets out ambitious but achievable targets to rebuild England’s biodiversity. We are calling on the Scottish Government to rise to the challenge and commit to a Scotland in which there is no overall biodiversity loss, which supports well-functioning ecosystems and which establishes coherent ecological networks with more and better places for nature.
“If UK Ministers can be ambitious for England’s wildlife, why shouldn’t Scottish Ministers be ambitious for Scotland’s wildlife? We urge the Scottish Government to step up to the plate and take the right action right now to ensure that the wildlife that makes Scotland so special – and that our economy depends on – is protected, maintained and enhanced.”
