Volunteer sheep looker

Title: Volunteer sheep lookers

Status: Flexible, up to 1 hour per shift on rotating basis

Location: Cander Moss near Blackwood

Closing date: Friday 10th May, but we will recruit as volunteers apply

Cander Moss is a lowland raised bog but due to surrounding developments and succession by plant life the water table is depleting and threatening the integrity of the habitat. By using sheep grazing we are controlling birch regeneration and reducing levels of ground cover and as part of good animal husbandry we are looking for a number of volunteers to allow daily checks to be carried out on the flock.

This is an opportunity to contribute to a forward thinking conservation project.

What we’re looking for

  • reliability & regular availability
  • own transport to get to sites
  • some basic fitness
  • willing to report any issues to Trust staff

What you will get in return

  • helping an effective conservation project on a valuable habitat
  • learn more about our wider grazing project
