Trust marks start of 50th Anniversary celebrations

The Scottish Wildlife Trust kicked-off its 50th Anniversary celebrations this morning when Sandy the Squirrel shared a giant hazelnut-shaped cake with People’s Postcode Lottery staff.

The beach ball-sized cake was specially commissioned by the Trust and was made by Edinburgh-based 3D Cakes – who have crafted cakes for Prince William and David Beckham.

Supporters, such as players of People’s Postcode Lottery, have allowed the Trust to continue the vision set out by founder Sir Charles Connell and a small number of others 50 years ago.

Chief Executive of the Scottish Wildlife Trust, Simon Milne, said: “The Scottish Wildlife Trust is thrilled to mark the beginning of the 50th Anniversary celebrations.

“This is a really fun and tasty way to get started, and importantly, it highlights how thankful the Scottish Wildlife Trust is for the ongoing support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery.”

Ambassador for the Trust, journalist and broadcaster Stephen Jardine, said: “The Scottish Wildlife Trust has a rich history and it is great to be starting the celebrations in style.

“I am very proud of being an ambassador for the Scottish Wildlife Trust because the important work it does is safeguarding Scotland’s wildlife like the red squirrel, golden eagle and Caledonian pine forests for future generations to enjoy.”

Head of Charities and Communication for People’s Postcode Lottery, Clara Govier, said: “The Scottish Wildlife Trust is an amazing charity that is doing fantastic work to protect Scotland’s precious wildlife.

“Players of People’s Postcode Lottery congratulate the Trust on reaching this important milestone and wish it all the best for its coming year of celebrations.”
