The Trust has received funding to replace a bridge over a burn at Balgavies Loch reserve near Forfar in Angus.

Severe flooding washed away the crossing on the reserve in January 2016 and it was replaced with a temporary structure soon after.

The new bridge will be in place by March 2017, ensuring that visitors can complete the circular walk around the reserve throughout the year. Drainage will also be improved to reduce the risk of flooding in the future.

The work will be completed thanks to a £5,446 award from the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund through the Angus Environmental Trust.

Reserves Manager Rab Potter said: “Balgavies Loch is incredibly important for local wildlife. It’s a great place to see wintering birds including goldeneye, teal and widgeon, and a haven for red squirrels.

“This support from Angus Environment Trust means that the circular route around the reserve will be secure and safe all year around, and the public can continue to enjoy visiting this very special place.”
